Junior Strings
Students will move from Beginner Strings to Junior Strings after their first year of playing. In this ensemble, students will consolidate the ensemble and technical skills learned in Beginner Strings, and move on to more challenging repertoire.
Students will stay in Junior Strings for 1-2 years, moving up to Senior Strings when they have made the progress necessary. This will be decided by the conductors of Junior and Senior Strings.
CONDUCTOR
Our Junior Strings Conductor is Pip Birkett.
Pip spent her youth teaching and playing the violin in orchestras before choosing a corporate career and keeping music as a hobby. Following the birth of her three children, she returned to her childhood passion of music.
Throughout the last nine years, Pip has been heavily involved in the string program at Forestville Public taking various string groups. Pip is currently studying for her bachelor of music/education, and is a member of the University of New South Wales Orchestra.

REHEARSALS
Junior Strings rehearsals take place in the Music Room on:
Thursday afternoons 3:15pm – 4:15pm
Students are expected to arrive on time so they can set up the hall ready for rehearsal. Every rehearsal requires a parent/ carer volunteer to supervise. Their role is to assist in the running of the rehearsal under the direction of the conductor.
It is requested that notice be given for any missed rehearsals. A musical ensemble is like any other team – it needs all its members in order to function successfully. Children joining the program are asked to commit for the full year, and to attend all rehearsals and performances.

JUNIOR STRINGS PARENT CO-ORDINATOR
We need one parent to volunteer as the Junior Strings Parent Co-ordinator. This parent will:
Liaise with the conductor, committee and teachers.
Communicate with parents about upcoming events and general information as well as organise a roster for parent/carer helpers during rehearsals.
This is not an intensive role and the amount of work is mainly focussed around setting up a roster at the beginning of each term.
